About Parque Natural de Jandía

Parque Natural de Jandía encompasses the southwestern region of Fuerteventura, one of the Canary Islands, spanning a dramatic terrain of volcanic peaks, extensive sandy beaches, and vast desert-like plains. The park is dominated by the Jandía massif, which includes the highest peak of the island, Pico de la Zarza, reaching 807 meters. This area presents an incredible mix of geological formations shaped by ancient volcanic activity. Ecologically, the park hosts unique flora adapted to arid conditions alongside marine life, as its coastline is lined with protected dunes and important nesting grounds for sea turtles such as the loggerhead. The park is home to endemic species such as the Fuerteventura lizard (Gallotia) and a variety of migratory birds, making it a hotspot for wildlife viewing and birdwatching. It also preserves remnants of traditional Canarian rural life and ancient fisheries, with small settlements nearby maintaining cultural heritage. Recreationally, visitors are attracted to hiking trails leading to panoramic summit views, tranquil beaches ideal for swimming and surfing, mountain biking routes, and opportunities for snorkeling and diving in the clear Atlantic waters. The natural park benefits from a dry subtropical climate, encouraging year-round visitation. Accessibility is supported by roads linking to the town of Morro Jable and other coastal villages. As a protected area, Parque Natural de Jandía integrates conservation with sustainable tourism, appealing to outdoor enthusiasts seeking both adventure and a serene natural environment.
